Drum and Dance Workshop with Nansady Keita in Guinea

Nansady will be running his annual intensive workshop in Guinea, in the winter of 2008/2009.  Come and learn traditional Malinké rhythms with Nansady.  Drumming tuition during the workshop will cover djembé and dundun parts with equal emphasis.
Drum and Dance tuition, food, accommodation, transport to and from Conakry airport and evening concerts included in workshop price (note: flights not included).

     

Daily Schedule
Drumming classes every morning (10am – 1pm) and afternoon (4pm – 6pm), in four day cycles, with dance on the afternoon of every third day, the fourth day is a day off. Participants will have the opportunity to experience evening performances from a variety of groups.

   

About the Location
The workshop will be taking place in a peaceful rural area just outside Dubreka within driving distance of Conakry (the capital of Guinea)
and close to the mountains.  Participants will have the opportunity to attend traditional celebrations and be immersed in the rich culture of Guinea.  On the days off trips to Kindia, beaches and the coast, local markets, or the nearby mountains can be organised, but costs not included in the workshop fee.

  

Accommodation and Meals

Accommodation is simple with outdoor toilets and showers. Three meals per day will be provided however participants are responsible for their own meals during excursions.

              

Registration
Places are limited, so register early. However a minimum of 12 guests are required for the workshop to go ahead. If fewer than 12 people have signed up then we reserve the right to reschedule to a later date and all deposits will be refunded. Airfares
Airfares are not included in the workshop fee, participants are responsible for organising their own flights to Conakry. Airlines that fly to Conakry include Air France, Royal Air Maroc and SN Brussels.

All vaccinations and medication
Anti-malaria medication is strongly recommended. Yellow fever vaccination is required (with documentary proof) for entry to Guinea.

Passport and visa
Participants must ensure that their passports are valid for 6 months from the date of arrival, and must organise a visa for Guinea (from the Guinea Embassy) before travelling. Yellow fever immunization is required for entry to Guinea and malaria prophylaxis are necessary.
